Eggplants - 28 Weeks - Third Trimester

Hello third trimester! Glucose test and growth scan were done at yesterdays appointment. We should have the glucose results back shortly and the babies are looking great. Her heart rate was 143 and his was 141 and they are both weighing in a 2 pounds 11 ounces, with her weighing a could grams less than him. And both are head down, with his head a little lower than hers at this point, but that could be because I swear his little toes are wrapped around my ribs to get leverage to stretch out more.

The babies are moving all the time, which is always reassuring. It is much more obvious that I am pregnant so I have talked with our daughter to make sure she has a good understanding of how to tell other people when they ask about the babies. We like to say that I am "babysitting" and that they are not actually her siblings. It amazes me how kids just say ok and move on while the adults are always the ones with questions. It has been nice to talk about the experience with people who have shown quite a bit of support.
I often get asked if I would do this again and I can say that I have checked off "pregnant with twins" from any bucket list but I think if these babies ever needed a sibling that would be the only time I would do this again. It has been such a smooth and enjoyable journey so far I don't think I would want to do this again with a new couple and change my experience with surrogacy.
I can say that with two tiny humans inside of me kicking and stretching like crazy that I will be happy to have my body back but there has been no regrets or second guesses about the decision to do this.
Less than 10 weeks to go!

Next appointment with Maitri is July 2nd for a blood pressure and heartbeat check. Growth scans will be every 4 weeks, the next will be July 17th.

Weight: 171

Feeling: Stuffed! My body is feeling more sore by the day. Standing is slowly becoming the enemy and it is surprising how front heavy I feel at times. Luckily a lot of the pressure is relieved when I lay on my side so I am happy there are still ways to get more comfortable at this point.

Babies: Your babies are about 14.8 inches long and weigh in at about 2.2 pounds.

They can blink their eyes, which now sport lashes. With their eyesight developing, they may be able to see the light that filters in through the womb. They are also developing billions of neurons in their brain and adding more body fat in preparation for life in the outside world. Their body fat is about 2 to 3 percent. They can taste and smell, with sucking and swallowing skills improving, and the eyes can produce tears. The bones are almost fully developed though still soft. Weight gain is rapid from now on. Your babies' main job right now is to put the finishing touches on major organ systems, such as the brain, lungs, and liver.
