Cherries - Week 9

Nine weeks down which means we are 1/4 of the way there! I have read at this point you should expect to gain about a pound a week if you have twins, with a total weight gain goal of 37 to 54 pounds. I gained 30 with my daughter and 15 with my son so I am curious how it will go with twins. Luckily they allow me to eat when hungry, slowly gaining my appetite back, but my sense of smell has definitely increased and while I can eat most foods, I cannot always stand the smell of them.

There is not really a baby bump yet, other than right after a larger meal, but I can feel my pants getting a little snug and finally caved and bought a pair of maternity pants.

As of the last ultrasound the babies were measuring two days ahead, with a due date of September 10th.

Weight: 157
Feeling: Food = good. Smelling food = bad. I may have to outlaw cooking pork chops in my house for a little while!

Babies: The babies are the size of cherries and measure around .9 inches and weighs about .07 ounces, and their growth is picking up steam!

Week 9 of pregnancy is a milestone: Baby's no longer an embryo—now he or she is a fetus! These two terms simply define different phases of development. The embryonic phase is about forming major organs, including the brain, heart, and lungs, plus the arms and legs. Once you’ve got a fetus, those organs and parts are formed and are now growing and developing.

They are starting to look more and more human. Their essential body parts are accounted for, though they'll go through plenty of fine-tuning in the coming months. Other changes abound: Your baby's heart finishes dividing into four chambers, and the valves start to form – as do their tiny teeth. The embryonic "tail" is completely gone. Your baby's organs, muscles, and nerves are kicking into gear. The external sex organs are there but won't be distinguishable as male or female for another few weeks. Their eyes are fully formed, but their eyelids are fused shut and won't open until 27 weeks. They have tiny earlobes, and the mouth, nose, and nostrils are more distinct. The placenta is developed enough now to take over most of the critical job of producing hormones. Now that your baby's basic physiology is in place, they are poised for rapid weight gain.
