Scallions - 26 weeks

What started with a virus or cold Thursday turned right into allergies over the weekend. I went to the doctor Friday just to confirm I did not have strep, and happy to report I do not but they said it was probably the same viral annoyance many others have been coming in for. So lots of fluid and rest were in my future for the weekend. Luckily the razor blade feeling in my throat has significantly decreased but the congestion and sinus pressure from allergies has drained the rest of my energy and has made sleeping more of a challenge.
Now I remember how bad my allergies were the summer I was pregnant with Jacob, but I believe that with some (doc approved) medications and a couple of weeks to adjust, the allergies became bearable. Finger crossed this too shall pass quickly!

The doctors appointment went well today, no growth scan this time since we just had it done again at UVM. The babies are both back to being head down and look nice and healthy in there with heart rates of 141 (her) and 144 (him) and plenty of fluid around each of them. And I can confirm that they are very active most of the time, kicking and flipping around in there making sure that I know they are happy and flexible even though I may be under the weather. The doctor was not concerned about the lack of weight gain since I have been sick and without appetite, especially since the babies look great.

Next appointment with Maitri is June 19th for their growth scan and second glucose test.

Weight: 168

Feeling: congested, short of breath and exhausted! Getting a cold and allergies can really wipe you out while making tiny humans. I took off from work Monday to give myself an extra day to rest and am already feeling better and getting more of an appetite. Since decongestant medications are not allowed while pregnant, I am reverting back to local honey and Claritin to try to decrease allergy symptoms and get back to enjoying the lovely weather outside :-)

Babies: Your babies are about 14 inches long and weigh in at about 1.7 pounds.

The babies are taking breaths—of amniotic fluid, not air. It’s good practice for those first moments after birth! They are getting their immune system ready for life on the outside by soaking up antibodies. And baby's eyes are forming, and will soon start to open.
The network of nerves in your babies' ears is better developed and more sensitive than before. They may now be able to hear both voices outside the womb. They are inhaling and exhaling small amounts of amniotic fluid, which is essential for the development of their lungs. These so-called breathing movements are also good practice for when they are born and take that first gulp of air. Your babies are continuing to put on baby fat. He now weighs about 1 2/3 pounds and measures 14 inches (about the length of a scallion) from head to heel. If you're having a boy, his testicles should soon begin to descend into his scrotum – a trip that will take about two to three months.
