Acorn Squash - 29 Weeks

Less than 9 weeks now! I have been working on blankets for the babies, because I will take any excuse to buy yarn and start a project, but it has also been a great distraction. When my body starts to really hurt, usually at the end of the day, I get as comfortable as I can and crochet something that I hope will turn out to be a special little gift. Nice way to take my mind off any discomfort. The belly is starting to make a nice little platform to rest the blanket on while I'm working.

Our summer has kicked off relatively smooth, other than Briella falling down the stairs and fracturing her wrist. Luckily kids bones bend more than actually break so her cast should only have to stay on 2-3 weeks, and she enjoyed the down time at first, resting with me when I needed to rest. We are having a BBQ and birthday celebration for Dave this weekend and Jacob the first week in August. Usually I am deeply involved in the planning and quite controlling to make sure every last detail is perfect with any event I plan. However... Dave is enjoying me handing over the reins and letting him plan the parties which involve more Frisbee golf and mini-bike racing than I would have included but I am looking forward to having all our friends come over so I can be more social while also staying near the comfort of our home. As I've said, standing is getting more uncomfortable as time goes on and being able to lie down, when I start to feel the fatigue creeping up, has been my saving grace.

We are still making it to the farmers market in town every Thursday evening after I pick the kids up from daycare, which is a harder time of day for me to find the energy to run around the park but it is a great way to get the kids energy out as well so we can all go to bed much easier once we get home. The weather has been so beautiful out and I love watching the kids dancing to the music and playing with the other kids at the farmers market so we will try to continue this as long as possible.

The belly is continuing to grow, but by the end of the day it definitely feels bigger (and heavier!) than when I first get up. And those little babies get so much more active as the day goes on. However, I do notice they calm down during reading time with the kids before bed. Every now and then one of the babies will kick or dance around which just makes the kids giggle while we are reading.

Next appointment with Maitri is July 2nd for a blood pressure and heartbeat check. I will also have my iron levels checked again to make sure the supplements are working.

Weight: 173

Feeling: Still pretty tired and short of breath most of the time but I am hoping the iron supplements will help bring some energy and oxygen back to my body! I also assume these are common symptoms with twins so no worry at this point, just working on keeping the babies happy and healthy.

Babies: Your babies are about 15.2 inches long and weigh in at about 2.5 pounds.

At 29 weeks, the babies are not just moving a lot, but also plumping up.
Their adrenal glands are producing a chemical which will be made into estriol (a form of estrogen) by the placenta. Each passing week improves the likelihood that your babies will be born strong and healthy. Their brain can detect rhythmic breathing and control body temperature, so they are less likely to need breathing assistance should they be born early. They are growing eyelashes, adding fat, and developing their brains. Because of brain wave activity, researchers have speculated that babies can even dream at this time!
