Pomegranates - Week 17

The bump continues to slowly grow but is still easily covered up by a loose shirt or scarf. There are times when I don't even feel pregnant, thanks to the nausea easing up, and other times I feel that pretty uncomfortable by everything shifting around in there to make room. I have to get a little creative while sleeping to get into a comfortable position, if I am not so tired I fall asleep where I laydown regardless of what room I happen to be in. And the large prego pillow helps though it takes up a good amount of room. I know it is comfortable since I often have to snag it back from Dave or whichever kid snuck into my bed. Luckily in my case it is three against one, yes the babies give me two extra votes!
We are all looking forward to our trip to California next week, which should be interesting flying with two young children while pregnant. Luckily JetBlue has TVs in each seat to distract us all from the 5-6 hour flight, and my daughter knows it is the only time she is ever allowed to watch Sponge Bob... pick your battles. I have a doctors appointment the afternoon before we leave which will make me feel comfortable traveling after making sure the babies and still nice and healthy in there. At that visit we will be doing the glucose test, which is usually done around 28 weeks with one baby but is done early with twins and sometimes repeated later in the pregnancy. You basically drink a cup of orange sugar water that tastes like flat orange soda, gross but not too bad. I passed this test with my daughter and son easily, but you never know when you double the fun. Finger crossed we pass the 1 hour test or we will be heading back in for a three hour test the following week to rule out gestational diabetes.

Weight: 163

Feeling: Feeling pretty good! As my muscles relax, my back and hips are starting to feeling a little sore but stretching helps. The babies are still being calm and their movement can't be felt too much yet.

Babies: Your babies are about 5.1 inches long and weigh in at about 5.9 ounces.

The babies body fat is beginning to form and will continue to accumulate through the end of the pregnancy. Their heart rates are now regulated by the brain (no more random beats). And since practice makes perfect, your babies are sharpening their sucking and swallowing skills. In fact, most of the survival reflexes your babies will have at birth are being perfected in utero right now. Your babies skeletons are changing from soft cartilage to bone, and the umbilical cords – their lifeline to the placenta – are growing stronger and thicker. They can move their joints, and their sweat glands are starting to develop.Within the next week or so, the pads on your baby's fingertips and toes will become adorned with completely individual swirls and creases, aka fingerprints.
